Thanks to being selected for The Curated Fridge Autumn 2017 FLASHPOINT Exhibit I found a great blog. When you're far far away (yes that was a Star Wars reference) from the Academic photography world -at least in a language you can understand - it's refreshing to hear a new voice on the fine art topics of photography. Thanks Elin...keep it up...We're reading.
Elin wrote a nice review on the exhibit. You can read it here elinspringphotography.com/blog/curated-fridge-at-gallery-kayafas-flashpoint-boston-photography-festival/ If you don't really know me you probably don't know about my love for Fridge art. whether it be in the form of magnets collected from around the world or family artwork to pertinent information, It says more about our family than I should admit. I should also probably not admit that clearing off the fridge is always on the to-do list for company visiting ...to give you an idea of how personal it can be. This past month however, I truly bared my soul on a fridge in Boston. To the few who have read my full thesis -not the books artist statement- you know this wasn't easy for me, but when I fell upon this call for entry, I just knew I had to enter my project. I will say that it was cathartic and with that I'm encouraged to keep collecting my memories and sometimes even sharing them with the world. Here's a little taste of the exhibit at Gallery Kayafas A special thanks to The Curated Fridge, Gallery Kayafas, & Brian Paul Clamp of ClampArt
If you haven't collaborated on something with a family member in awhile....I highly recommend it. There's something so satisfying, so sweet, about a final product made with the love and complement of someone who knows and understands what you want out of something. This image is the culmination of many images that Ian and I discuss taking as we navigate our way around our new big city, Tokyo. It took one of us noting the sudden emptiness of this intersection (weird on a Sunday in Ginza) another to note the leading lines, a mental note at the amazing light....finalizing with the composition and push of the button. The entire process all happening in probably less than 20 seconds....Serendipity. Ian gets kudos for the edit. {iphone6}
